Mass of the Lord's Supper

le="text-align: justify;">The Rector of the National Shrine of Ta' Pinu, Rev. Fr. Gerald Buhagiar, invited Schola Cantorum Jubilate to animate the liturgy during the Pascal Triduum. The first appointment was on Maundy Thursday. The celebration in remembrance of the Lord's Last Supper started at 6pm. It is celebrated in the evening because traditionally, the Passover starts with the family united in the first night for a special dinner. The High Mass was presided by Mgr. Bishop Emeritus Nicholas G. Cauchi. The choir performed the ‘Missa Cantate Domino' (Oltrasi) and the hymns ‘Waslet is-Siegha' as introit, then ‘Ubi Charitas' (Bartolucci) during the washing of the apostles' feet and ‘O Ras ta' Kristu Imbierka' (Hassler/Bach) during the offerings. The communion was animated by ‘O Sacrum Convivium' (Bartolucci) and ‘O Domine Jesu Christe' (Palestrina). The mass ended with the procession of the Holy Eucharist to the altar of repose. In that instant, the Schola Cantorum performed ‘Pange Lingua' (Gregorian Chant) and finally ‘Stay with me' (Taize'). Jean Noel Attard accompanied the choir on the church organ during the first part of the liturgy. The ‘Gloria' was the last piece accompanied with the organ. From this moment till the ‘Gloria' of the Easter Vigil, all music accompaniments and church bells are silenced. The Schola Cantorum Jubilate performed all the other motets a cappella in SATB.
