Concert

le="text-align: justify;">The Archpriest and il-Kumitat tal-Gimgha l-Kbira of Zejtun, invited Schola Cantorum Jubilate for their annual sacred concert held at St. Catherine's Parish Church. During this concert, the Committee inaugurated a brand new statue of Simon from Sirene meeting and helping Jesus. This statue was done by the well-known Chev. Alfred Camilleri Cauchi.

le="text-align: justify;">The concert which started at 7.15pm was presented by Mr. Charles Abela Mizzi and was under the patronage of His Exc. Bishop Emer. of Kuwait Mgr. Francis Adeodatus Micallef ODC. Present were members of Parliament and His Exc. Ambassador (Emer.) of Vatican Cachia Zammit who paid for the statue. The programm included pieces by Palestrina: ‘O Bone Jesu', ‘O Domine Jesu Christe', ‘Adoramus Te' and ‘Popule Meus', ‘Stabat Mater' by Kodály, ‘Ubi Caritas' by Duruflé and ‘O Ras Ta' Kristu Mbierka' by Bach. The choir performed also two pieces from a well-known Maltese composer who was from Zejtun – Carlo Diacono. The male section of the choir interpreted Diacono's ‘Plange' and the female interpreted ‘Jerusalem' usually sung on Easter Saturday. The Choir director and soprano, Marouska Attard interpreted ‘Ave Maria' by Caccini and ‘Pie Jesu' by Faure'. She was accompanied by Mro. Stephen Attard on the church organ. The violinist Charlene Caruana (member of the Jubilate Chamber Orchestra) interpreted two solo pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach. These were ‘Mena Gigue' from Partita II in D minor and ‘Gigue' from Partita III in E Major. The evening included also some poetry readings and gifts were distributed to various local entities by the Committee. One of the gifts was donated to the Choir director. It was a picture of the new statue in a wooden frame. An audience of around 1000 attended for this concert.
