Sliema

le="text-align: justify;">The Salesians of Sliema invited Schola Cantorum Jubilate for their annual Christmas concert. The church was packed with an international audience; in fact, there were people from Malta, England, Korea, Canada and Romania. The Concert was held at St. Patrick's Chapel in Sliema and started at 7.30pm. It included various Advent motets and Christmas Carols, some of which were sung a cappella and others were accompanied by Mro. Stephen Attard on the piano. The pieces were: ‘O Come O Come Emanuel' (Trad. 9th century Latin song), ‘The coming of Christmas' (Camilleri), ‘Alma Redemptoris Mater' (arr. Frisina), ‘Psallite' (Praetorius), ‘It-Trittiku tal-Milied' (arr. Portelli), ‘Nativity Carol' (Rutter), ‘God Rest you Merry Gentleme' (arr. Willcocks), ‘O Come all ye faithful' (arr. Willcocks), ‘Silent Night' (Gruber) and ‘Gloria in cielo' (arr. Frisina). The Epiphany song ‘We Three Kings' (Hopkins, arr. Pitts) included three soloists: Christabella Vella (soprano), Janice Gatt (alto) and Fabian Galea (tenor). The director and soprano Marouska Attard interpreted ‘O Holy Night' (Adam) and ‘The Little Road to Bethlehem' (Head). The evening included also two reading about Christmas which were read by the parishioners. There was a standing ovation at the end of the concert by the audience who was so welcoming and encouraging. Schola Cantorum Jubilate gave an encore with the popular carol ‘Joy to the world'. After the concert, there was a reception where the choir members met the congregation which was keen to talk to the choristers about the outstanding performance.
