Wedding-of-Mary-and-Joseph-by-GiottoThe second day of September happens to be a remarkable day for the village of Xagħra, especially for the Xagħrin who remember the event of forty three years ago. In fact in 1973, H. E. Bishop Nicholas G. Cauchi crowned the statue of Maria Bambina, an event which is commemorated every year at Xagħra.

Emma Tabone and Marlon Buttigieg chose this day to exchange the vows and form a new family. The Nuptial Mass started at 5pm and was officiated by Mgr. Arc. C. Refalo.

Marouska Attard welcomed the bride in church with Schubert’s ‘Ave Maria'. The other repertoire performed included: ‘Ave Verum’ (Mozart) and ‘The Lord Bless you and Keep you’ (Rutter). At the end of the mass, the choir, accompanied by Joseph Camilleri on the organ, performed ‘Tfajla Ħelwa’ (Portelli). This hymn was written ten years ago specifically for Schola Cantorum Jubilate for the Commemoration of the Great Sieges of Malta which is celebrated on 7th September.

Congratulations to the new couple!
